In March, the Buckhorn Area Quilters’ Guild was honored to host a trunk show by Paul Leger, who will be the featured artist in our quilt show in September. With humour and wit, Paul took us along as he detailed the journey and development of a young boy whose mother was a dressmaker, to a member of our armed forces, to the artist and talented quilter that Paul is today. He let us experience his trials and successes, often laughing when he made mistakes, but also demonstrating the growth that comes from recognizing the errors we all make.
Paul’s perspective was unique, and opened our eyes to the importance of learning new techniques as well as acknowledging the difference in tastes between men and women. His talent is very evident in his Canada Proud quilt that he created for Quilts of Valour and Canada 150, his Our Ancestors quilt which now resides at the Acadian Museum at the University of Moncton and features 305 names of founding Acadie families, and the many other quilts that he has created. They range in size from postcard to wall – but each has a unique story to tell. Perhaps the small sampling of pictures from his trunk show can demonstrate a portion of his vast talent. Thank you, Paul for a wonderful and captivating journey.
